WLA 655G dates from 1968 and
represents the final 1098cc version of the Morris Minor range. Its
first owner was the GPO, which had a history of purchasing Morris
vans dating right back to the 1920s, and vast fleets of Minor vans
became ubiquitous throughout the nationwide network over many
years. Most were in post office red livery and used on letter and
parcel delivery work, but this was a telephone linesmen's van and
was in the green used by that department. When Post Office
telecommunications was devolved as a separate entity in about 1970
the fleet was resprayed in yellow, including our van. On
withdrawal in 1975 it was sold to Hawker Sideley Avionics. Now
restored to original condition and carries its first fleet
number...U238675.
