The Vehicles

The museum has a wide range of vehicles in its collection that have been collected from a variety of sources.  Buses, Trams, Trolleybuses, Steam Rollers, Light Railway Vehicles, Milk Floats, Lorries, Cars, and even a Sinclair C5 go to making up the majority of the collection, although there are numerous one-off items on display alongside these key classes of vehicle.

Many of the vehicles in stock are operable, and you may witness some of these in operation whilst at the museum.  A large and varied fleet of trams and trolleybuses are used to give rides to visitors on every opening day whilst many of our buses of various ages can be sampled in service on any of our special event days throughout the year.  In addition many of the 'running' vehicles are used in demonstrations around the museum roadway throughout the season, so there is always a chance that the vehicle you really want to see running, might!

The up-to-date stock list below shows the vehicles currently in the museum collection, with some brief details of their origin etc.  When visiting the museum, any of our members will be pleased to find answers to any question that you may have about specific vehicles beyond what is available here.

Additionally there are two Bamford & Curtis roadmen's living vans of the mid 1920's and a White & Calne water cart (originally horse-drawn) all of which are hauled by the steamrollers.  A Lowestoft Corporation Milnes-built single-deck tram body of 1903 is also owned (fleet number unknown) and is used as a display building.

The Museum is sometimes represented at transport rallies and other similar events.  For this reason, certain vehicles listed above may not always be available for display. Additionally, others may be on loan to other museums, or away for restoration or repair (currently marked * in the list above).
