London 1521

1521 was new in 1940 to the London Passenger Transport Board. It is one of a batch of 148 chassisless Trolleybuses, these were designated the L3 class by the London Passenger Transport Board. By the 1950's cheaper fuel oil together with the cost of maintaining overhead wires began to make the trolleybus less viable. The replacement with motor buses began in 1959. 1521 became London's last trolleybus when it operated from Wimbledon to Fulwell in the early hours of 9 May 1962. After purchase by the London Trolleybus Preservation Society, 1521 then became the first trolleybus to move under its own power in preservation!
