LATEST INFORMATION
This tram is being totally reconstructed to return it to operational condition. Rebuilding of the truck, including installation of the new side members, was completed in 2005 and followed by a systematic dismantling of the car body in 2006.

A new body underframe was assembled during 2007.

Preparation of timber components for the main saloon framework is currently under way. It is hoped that the braking, sanding and lifeguard systems will also receive some attention during the winter of 2007/8.

The illustration shows car 14 as previously reconstructed and prior to being dismantled. At the time, it was mounted on a temporary (ex-Glasgow) truck.

History

Number 14 was built in 1904 by Milnes for the 3 foot 6 inch gauge Lowestoft Corporation Tramways system and  ran practically unmodified until replaced by buses in 1931. 14 is a 48 seat open top four wheeler and is typical of many thousands of similar trams built for use throughout the British Isles in the early part of the last century. After withdrawal it spent thirty years as a summerhouse before it was rescued for preservation in 1961 and subsequently cosmetically reconstructed. The present Milnes truck is standard gauge to suit the Museum tram track.
